Boy with cancer motivates teens

As their senior project, trio sets up benefit on Saturday

MOUNT ANGEL — On June 12, a parent’s worst fears were realized. Rhonda Grant found out her son Jordan Dark had cancer.

The bright-eyed 11-year-old, who is rarely seen without a smile or a laugh, was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma in his right arm.

Wanting to help the Mount Angel boy, three Kennedy High School seniors are raising money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children, a group devoted to helping children.

On Saturday, there will be a dinner and auction to benefit the Shriners in Mount Angel at the home of Mary and Mike Grant, the owners of The Glockenspiel Restaurant and The Grant Company. Seniors Stephanie Jones, 17, Megan Woodley, 17, and Sam Traeger, 18, organized the event.
